OT: Sniper services

I know about esnipe. Any others that I should know about? Any postives or negatives on them?

I'm not going to be able to watch auctions while I'm away, so I thought I might register if there are some auctions that come up over the next couple of days.

You can buy the service for 12 or so snipes, or you can buy it by the month or other blocks of time. They charge only for successful snipes, and you get one/some free one(s), when you first sign on.
You can change your bid up until 6 minutes before the end of the auction. And they put in your bid about 3 seconds before the end, I believe. I'm not sure when the shortest amount of time was that I've seen them do for me. Once it seemed like hundredths of a minute before the end, but I'm not sure if I read it right.

I just used a 10-day free trial for bidnapper.com a couple weeks ago. It worked every time!

I use justsnipe.com, which gives you 5 free snipes a week (which is good, since it makes me prioritize rather than bid like crazy on everything).

The only con is that the free sniper goes in at something like 7 or 8 seconds before the auction and the paid one goes in closer to the end, so you COULD still get sniped.

True, but there's an up-side to that down-side (if that makes any sense) - if two people snipe the same auction with the same bid, I think the one that goes in first will win. Really, at that point, it all comes down to who placed the highest bid, since there isn't really time for anyone to bid anyone else up. I snipe because it keeps me out of bidding wars, so the couple seconds' difference doesn't matter too much to me (especially when it means the service is free!).

Becca has a good point. If we're both willing to go up to $40, it's better that mine's in first. If I don't want to go up that high, I wouldn't win anyway.

I did register with justsnipe and have a couple of things in there. Yikes!
